What is the difference between indicative and imperative

The conditional that talks about what would happen or what one would do in certain circumstances. The subjunctive that talks about a situation that is uncertain, unreal, or just a wish. Also, the subjunctive mood talks about the urgency or importance of something. In French the subjunctive is used after certain verbs and conjunctions when two parts of a sentence have different subjects.

A conditional sentence tells what would or might happen under certain conditions. During the earthquake, we remained calm. No ganaron. Subjunctive Mood The subjunctive mood is characterized by expressing actions or ideas that are hypothetical and not concrete.

Te niego que vayas a la fiesta. I forbid you from going to the party. Es importante que mantengamos la calma. Dudo que ganen. I doubt that they will win. Me gusta que me regales flores. Imperative The imperative mood is characterized by making demands and giving direct orders.

You have to go to the going-away dinner! Verbs have three moods—indicative, imperative, and subjunctive. The indicative and the imperative moods are fairly common. You use the indicative mood in most statements and questions. He walks every day after lunch. Does he believe in the benefits of exercise? You use the imperative in requests and commands. Sit down. Please take a number. Verb tenses in the subjunctive mood are used in special kinds of statements. In your own writing, you must decide which statements should be in the subjunctive mood.

If something is likely to happen, use the indicative. If something is hypothetical, or contrary to fact, use the subjunctive. If I were king, you would be queen. In the subjunctive, were is used for all persons. The forms of the verbs in these clauses are different from those of verbs used in the indicative mood.

In the if clause, use the subjunctive. Table 1 shows how it is formed.
