From this point onwards, those carrying the gift or curse, depending on whom one is talking to , will be able to change into a Werewolf once a day, which causes people nearby to retreat and yield or attack. The Dragonborn will also receive a bounty if the transformation is witnessed by a citizen. Members of any faction will not attack the Dragonborn in either humanoid or Werewolf form after joining, nor will a Hero of Sovngarde assault them.
In Skyrim , the only way to become a Werewolf is to complete the quest line for the Companions of Jorrvaskr in Whiterun , up until the quest "The Silver Hand.
After some time, Skjor will lead the Dragonborn to The Underforge. There he will offer the opportunity to drink the blood of Aela the Huntress when she is in Werewolf form, and become a Werewolf. Beast Form lasts approximately two and a half minutes, with only one use per day. Unlike in Morrowind , one does not change into a Werewolf at a fixed time, as it is a power. To be able to stay in Werewolf mode for a prolonged period of time, one must "Feed" off fallen human characters, which adds 30 seconds to the current time per feeding, and also heal the Dragonborn.
With Dawnguard installed, the Dragonborn can choose a perk that allows them to feed on almost any fallen opponent, although it only prolongs the duration for half of what feeding off of humanoid opponents gives.
Once returned to normal form, all items will have been unequipped and the Dragonborn will have to wait twenty-four hours to be able to use Beast Form again.
If the Dragonborn has obtained the Ring of Hircine , equipping it will allow the use of a separate power, "Ring of Hircine," which is identical to Beast Form and offers all the same benefits. The only difference is that it is not limited to once-a-day use, it is made available any time the Dragonborn equips the ring. Followers will not react to the Dragonborn's transformation. Due to the restrictions placed on Werewolves interacting with objects and characters, one will not be able to interact with a follower while transformed on Xbox , one can bypass this by using Kinect commands.
A follower will become hostile if hit while the character is in Beast Form, even if they are a companion. Eorlund Gray-Mane will defend the Dragonborn if they transform publicly in Whiterun. Wild wolves become non-hostile when one is in Beast Form, but wild Werewolves, added on by Dawnguard , will still attack. The Werewolf skill tree includes eight perks. Now, they have various chapters that persist across the continent.
Supposedly, this coven worships Hircine as a kind of patron to their work, and as such, the Glenmoril Witches are always sought out in matters of curing vampirism or lycanthropy. Because of their extensive lore on the subject, they are actually the only known source for any cure for lycanthropy.
The cures have varied from game to game, so there is yet to be one canon remedy. Another negative consequence of possessing the power of one of Hircine's children is the loss of peaceful sleep for the foreseeable future. Werewolves suffer from a condition called "restless sleep" and it is described as werewolf blood boiling from the need to constantly hunt prey.
Sleep can still be achieved, but dreams lead to thrashing and kicking during slumber. Within the game, the negative consequence of this comes in the form of no bonus experience gained from restful sleep. Not an awful detraction, but noticeable all the same. Not all consequences are perceived as negative, and perhaps the one that sparks the most debate among werewolves is what happens to their souls after they die. Werewolves souls belong to Hircine and their afterlife consists of participating in back-to-back hunts that never end, serving as fellow hunters to their lord, Hircine.
Some zealous lycanthropes revel in the glory and the killing that comes with their blessing, so they gladly accept this fate. Others, however, like Nords who wish to reach Sovngard one day, fear the idea of such a fate their curse gives them and usually choose to try to cure their condition before their lives end.
Last Edited: 10 Dec pm. You cannot become a Vampire and a Werewolf at the same time. Becoming a Vampire Lord removes lycanthropy automatically, but the option to return remains. Lycanthropy can be cured by other means as well.
After finishing The Companions ' questline, you'll get a quest that offers a cure. Totem of The Hunt : Detect Life ability. Totem of Brotherhood : Summon 2 Wolf Spirits. Totem of Fear : Howling will Fear enemies. Benefits The benefits of lycanthropy are few but rewarding: Increased health in human form.
Immunity to all forms of disease including Saguinare Vampiris. Beast Mode In a transformed state, the werewolf's innate powers enhance your speed and physical strength. The physical damage you inflict increases by level. The Dragonborn also has a chance to maul an opponent after knocking them down. Unlike traditional werewolves, the Dragonborn can transform at will, during day or night, by using the Beast Form power.
Actions while in werewolf form do not count towards the Dragonborn's normal bounty , unless someone sees the transformation, in which case a 1, gold bounty is added in the appropriate hold. This makes it incredibly useful while doing many Dark Brotherhood missions. Also whilst transformed, wolves treat the Dragonborn as an ally unless attacked. The Ring of Hircine , once obtained through the quest "Ill Met by Moonlight," will allow the Dragonborn to turn into a werewolf unlimited times a day.
Equipping it will give the Dragonborn the "additional transformations" power which is lost after using it. To regain the power, the Dragonborn must re-equip the ring, at which point the power will be returned. The rings are only available to the Dragonborn if they are a werewolf, otherwise the members of the Frostmoon Pack are hostile towards visitors. The Ring of Instinct provides an effect similar to the Slow Time shout for 20 seconds upon transformation into Beast Form.
The Ring of the Hunt allows for the regeneration of health in Beast Form. As previously stated in the "Other" section above, the Dragonborn is limited to one change per day.
When using the power Beast Form, it is possible to transform no matter what the time of day or where the Dragonborn is located. To return to normal form, the Dragonborn must wait 2. Alternately, you may choose to wait 2 or 3 game hours.
The Beast Form is useful for fighting against giants. By using the sprint attack, the giant will be knocked down just like any other foe, and they take a long time to get back up on their feet. During this time the Dragonborn can continue attacking the Giant with no risk of damage. As soon as the giant is almost recovered from its stagger, the Dragonborn can simply repeat to knock them down again. However the Dragonborn does need to beware of the giants' pets, the mammoths.
It is recommended that the Dragonborn kills them first. This can also be done in werewolf form easily. Simply power attack the mammoths first, when the giant is approaching, knock him down as stated above and continue attacking the mammoth.
The Dragonborn should constantly be moving around to the back of the mammoth, to avoid being attacked, as the mammoth moves rather slowly compared to the werewolf.
A werewolf's agility and the giant and mammoths' slow attacks also give the Dragonborn a huge edge. The Dragonborn cannot gain any resting bonuses when having lycanthropy.
They also cannot gain the temporary bonus of Lover's Comfort normally gained by sleeping in the Dragonborn's house when his or her spouse is present while afflicted.
Skill bonuses from standing stones still apply normally. Once transformed, the camera view is automatically moved to third person and cannot be changed back until after the transformation wears off.
The werewolf form is large, and so has trouble fitting through narrow passages, and while in werewolf form the Dragonborn cannot access menus, maps, or items. This can be troubling when in the wild, as the Dragonborn cannot view the map and can easily become lost. By "sheathing" the werewolves claws, the werewolf can take on a less aggressive stance, along with allowing them to pan the camera.
It is not possible to speak while shifted unless a part of a quest is reached where a character starts a conversation with the Dragonborn. If this happens it is possible to reply to them even in werewolf form. Anyone unfamiliar with the werewolf form will usually flee or try to attack the Dragonborn. Any followers that the Dragonborn may have will not leave their service for simply transforming into a werewolf and will still follow and attack enemies, but if the Dragonborn were to use The Scent of Blood or purposely damage the follower, they would flee, so it is advised to be careful around followers when in werewolf form.
Exceptions: When a follower is at too high a level to be affected by Scent of Blood, they will shrug it off without consequences. The Dragonborn can feed upon fallen foes by activating them, this allows the Dragonborn to regenerate health. This is the only way to heal while in this form, as spell-casting and passive health regeneration are disabled. It also increases the duration of werewolf form by thirty seconds per person fed on.
It is sometimes possible to feed on non-playable races, vampires , Falmer and Dremora can be fed on.
